Seven Georgian soldiers were killed in a bomb attack on ISAF troops in Afghanistan on June 6. A demonstration in Batumi on the following day gave them some late attention. It was organized by several NGOs and former PWOs. People helt poster saying : We don´t want NATO.
Few people realize, that the small nation of Georgia, counting hardly 4 Million people is participating in the war in Afghanistan. The condolences from statesmen near and far show a bitter and by far not adequate routine. Georgia has been waiting to get into the international alliance for years. It had high hopes in 2008. Experts even wonder if Georgia´s membership could have avoided the war with Russia.
The situation Georgia is in these days, the death of seven soldiers in Afghanistan my raise strong feelings against NATO and even against the international community in general. They pay a very high price for their great hopes.
