Kazakh and Uzbek diplomats discuss key issues on eve of major events

Delegations headed by Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Galymzhan Koishybayev and Uzbek First Deputy Foreign Minister Ilkhom Nematov recently discussed a wide range of politics, trade, economics, culture and humanitarian assistance issues, as well as interaction between Astana and Tashkent within international and regional structures. Nematov also sat with Kazakh Minister of Foreign Affairs Beibut Atamkulov. “Uzbekistan is our brotherly country, a key political and economic partner in the region,” said Atamkulov. “The priority for the foreign ministries should be to fully implement the agreements reached by Presidents Nursultan Nazarbayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev focused on the comprehensive strengthening of bilateral cooperation. In 2018, bilateral trade grew by over 25 percent and amounted to $2.5 billion.” He emphasised the importance of high-level preparation for upcoming events, primarily the second Heads of Central Asian States working (consultative) meeting in Tashkent and the launch of the Year of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan. www.mfa.gov.kz
